Food thought for the day

Yesterday, we had linguine with prawns and chilli, with steamed broccoli. I don't know why prawns go so well with chilli, perhaps it's because they're slightly sweet and juicy. Ever since I saw this on a menu at an Italian restaurant I've been itching to cook it at home. It was a very simple supper - toss the cooked linguine in olive oil, add the prawns, and add the zest of one lemon. This time the zest came out in really beautiful long strips; normally I don't approve of kitchen gadgetry, but zesters make things so much easier! The zest seemed to be imitating the linguine, and clung to it very nicely. Before adding the chilli flakes we removed Footnote's portion, and even though it lacked the joie de vivre that our portions had, he still said encouraging things.
This morning we had goat's cheese on toast. Goat's cheese has a tendency to be too cloying if had in rather large quantities, and as we're trying to get through the rest of the 1kg log we bought a few days ago, we've been struggling a little. A chance comment, however, led to suggestion that we eat grapes as well. I am not a fan of Fruit With Things. So whilst Footnote enthusiastically sliced grapes to lay on top of his toast, I settled for alternating mouthfuls. Grapes really do work very well at balancing the alkali of the cheese, a fact I hadn't really appreciated before this morning. Still, roll on summer and gloriously over hot days, when to counteract the heat we'll put grapes in the freezer ...
